This month we will discuss the novella "Anthem," by Ayn Rand. This is a short, powerful work that paints a picture of a dystopic future society in which individualistic thinking has been curtailed to such a degree that the pronoun "I" has vanished from the language. The concept of "self" no longer has meaning--every individual is but a slave to the collective whole. Read about the struggle of our hero, Equality 7-2521, as he tries to reconcile his innate ideas of individualism with the suffocating collectivism of his world.
