This is our third and final meeting at a private location. We will be listening to a recorded lecture titled "The Epistemology of Altruism."
The lecturer is by writer Peter Schwartz.
Here is the official description of the talk. "This talk discusses how altruism is at root a product of mysticism. Mr. Schwartz explains why the demand for self-sacrifice does not merely lead to, but essentially consists of, the surrender of reason. He examines how altruism is a systematic assault on the Law of Identity, and how it gains widespread acceptance only by distorting, rather than defending, its true nature."
After the lecture we will have a short discussion of its ideas. Following the meeting anyone interested in further discussion is encouraged to join us for food and drinks.
Directions:
If you are taking the subway, your best bet is to get off at 34th &
Market and walk south until you get to 34th & Walnut then take a
diagonal right onto Locust Walk. Walk about half a block and you will
see it behind the Benjamin Franklin statue.
If you are driving, you might try to park along Spruce between 34th &
36th. Then, use the map below to figure out how to get to the East
entrance of College Hall.
Use the East-facing entrance to enter.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE MAN AT THE DESK. Last time he was telling people to go to a different building; he was unaware that College Hall has a suite 400. To find our room, enter behind Ben Franklin. Go forward and make a left at the desk. Walk up the stairs until you reach the 3rd (3rd!!!) floor. On your left on the opposite side of the hall is a door for suite 400. Directly behind the door is a flight of stairs. Go up the stairs and make a right down the hall. At the end of the hall there are two doors--one facing you and one to your left. The one facing you is ours.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE FINDING THE BUILDING OR THE ROOM CALL MIKE's CELL: 856-261-4919 REMEMBER TO HAVE MIKE'S NUMBER; LAST MONTH THE BUILDING WAS LOCKED SO YOU NEED TO CALL TO GET IN
NOTE: ARI charges $1 per person per hour of the lecture, so that means I need $1.50 at the meeting. Bring exact change.
