Everyone,

I'm extremely excited to announce that Alex Epstein of the Ayn Rand Institute has agreed to do a presentation on some of the most maligned and misunderstood concepts in capitalism.

What: “Debunking the Monopoly Myth: The Case of Standard Oil.”
Who: Alex Epstein, Analyst at the Ayn Rand Institute.

Most of us were taught in school that in the late 1800s, laissez-faire capitalism was tried and failed. When businessmen were left entirely free of government regulations and antitrust law, we learned, they used unfair, “anti-competitive” tactics to become monopolies—monopolies with the ability to squelch innovative competitors and jack up consumer prices at will. And of all the monopolies, there is none more infamous than John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Trust.

In “Debunking the Monopoly Myth: The Case of Standard Oil,” Alex Epstein will tell the real, inspiring story of Rockefeller’s rise to market dominance—and explain how his success is an indictment, not of laissez-faire capitalism, but of the antitrust laws that target great businesses for prosecution and punishment.

Mr. Epstein will speak for approximately 45 minutes, and then answer audience questions. Questions are welcome on any topic, whether Rockefeller or, or, more broadly, anything related to Objectivism, Ayn Rand, or current events.

Alex is an excellent presenter and he really knows his stuff, so you don't want to miss this one!

Directions:
Follow directions on map, but turn left at the circle and drive to the end (by the fountain). Turn right down the ramp and park in the underground lot. Walk back up the ramp and the theater is directly behind the fountain. Please don't be late.

P.S. The theater is not free so a $5 donation would be appreciated.
